Reading road Trip

Whilst enjoying your time in Barbados why not take opportunity to give back to the local community by quite literally going back to school on a Reading Road Trip. This is a unique opportunity to engage with local Caribbean children through the islands 'Community Routes Program'. Reading a story is just the beginning of this enlightening experience when you are paired with a small group of children, aged 3 to 7 years old on a journey to their local school. Your personal stories and questions will keep the group attentive whilst benefitting their skills in listening and communication. As these youngsters complete their reading aptitude sheets, your one to one guidance will inspire a new chapter of excitement about learning. If you choose to partake, bring along a new or gently used book to donate to the school’s library to be enjoyed by students time and time again.

Oistins Fish Fry

If you have a desire to immerse yourself in a true Bajan tradition which is popular with locals and visitors alike, do not miss Oistins fish fry. Held every Friday night this lively evening bbq, held under the twinkling night sky, begins at 7pm and continues into the early hours, with live music and dancing to be enjoyed by all. Fill your plate with freshly grilled seafood and other island specialities, peruse the stalls of local craft and artists and soak up the positive energy exuding from this pretty fishing village on the south coast. With a casual dress code, rustic seating areas and plentiful drinks and dishes to sample throughout the night, we think this will be amongst your most treasured  experiences of the island.

Note that when you sign up for the Oistins Express Shuttle, which runs from locations along the West Coast straight to the port in Christchurch, $3 goes towards supporting the local community and the work of Sandals Foundation. A bonus to your enjoyment of the night. We would recommend that if taking the bus you leave plenty of time for your journey as it can be quite busy, especially on Friday evenings. From Gibbes and Paynes Bay you can expect around a one and a half hour ride.
